MALAYSIA’S SPECTACULAR CULTURAL FESTIVAL RETURNS TO KUALA LUMPUR AND UK TRAVELLERS ARE INVITED

British travellers planning a summer escape to Malaysia have a new reason to visit in late July, as Citrawarna 2026—one of Southeast Asia’s most vibrant celebrations of culture and heritage—returns to Kuala Lumpur’s historic Merdeka Square from 24 to 26 July, bringing together dazzling parades, traditional performances and colourful cultural showcases from across the country.

Staged as part of Visit Malaysia 2026 (VM2026), the three-day festival brings together performers from across Malaysia’s diverse states and communities for a celebration of the country’s music, dance, food, art and heritage under the theme “The Rhythm. The Soul. The Nation”

For UK visitors already drawn to Malaysia’s mix of rainforest, beaches and buzzing city life, Citrawarna offers something different: a rare chance to see the country’s full cultural spectrum ‚Malay, Chinese, Indian, and indigenous Bornean traditions among them ‚performed together in one place over a single weekend.

“The UK is one of Malaysia’s most important markets in Europe, and British travellers consistently tell us they want more than a beach holiday, they want to understand the culture behind the destination. Citrawarna gives visitors that in a single weekend, in the heart of the capital. With direct flights from London to Kuala Lumpur and a festival of this scale on the calendar, late July is shaping up to be a great time to visit.” said Mr Sulaiman Suip, Director of Tourism Malaysia London.

Four experiences, one festival

Colours of Flavour‚ a showcase of Malaysian street food and regional delicacies, from Penang hawker classics to Sarawakian specialities.
Colours of Culture, traditional performances and community activities reflecting Malaysia’s multicultural make-up.
Colours of Art, handicrafts and live demonstrations from artisans working in batik, weavingand traditional craft.
The centrepiece of the festival is the Colours of Parade on 25 July, when Merdeka Square ‚ the site of Malaysia’s independence declaration in 1957‚ is transformed into a stage for one of the country’s largest cultural showcases. First held in 1999, Citrawarna has become a fixture of Malaysia’s cultural calendar - it’s a festival with history.
