Starwood Honored Again by EPA

2003 - For the second year in a row the Environmental Protection Agency has named Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. (NYSE:HOT) as an ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year for its outstanding contribution to reducing greenhouse gas emissions through leadership in energy management. Starwood`s accomplishments will be recognized at an awards ceremony in Washington, D.C. on April 15th, 2003.
Starwood, a partner in the program since 2000, is being honored for adopting smart energy practices and investments throughout their operations, such as enhancements to its physical plants, guest room energy management controls, ozone laundry systems, premium efficiency motors and combined heat and power applications using reciprocating engine technology and fuel cells.
“Starwood is pleased to be a part of the ENERGY STAR program,” said John Lembo, director of energy for Starwood`s North American Division. “We are proud to make the environment and energy management an organizational priority, and the ENERGY STAR program is good for our bottom line and good for the environment.”
The ENERGY STAR Award is given to a variety of organizations to recognize their efforts to use energy efficiently in their own facilities and integrate energy efficiency into their organizational strategy. These Award Winners are selected from thousands of organizations that participate in the ENERGY STAR program. “Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. has made ENERGY STAR and energy performance part of their overall business strategy as well as part of their day-to-day operations,” said Kathleen Hogan, director of EPA`s Climate Protection Partnerships Division. “By joining the ENERGY STAR program Starwood has demonstrated a long term commitment to the environment.”
ENERGY STAR was introduced by the US Environmental Protection Agency in 1992 as a voluntary market-based partnership to reduce air pollution through increased energy efficiency. The program offers businesses and consumers energy-efficient solutions to save energy, money and help protect the environment for future generations.
