18 Feb 2003 - Living up to the accolade of Best Cabin Crew 2002, two members of Malaysia Airlines cabin crew were recently given special recognition by a grateful passenger for quickly tracing him and returning valuables which he had inadvertently left on board a Malaysia Airlines flight.
Last 06 November 2002, Mr. Michel Sauvenier, a frequent passenger on Malaysia Airlines, travelled to Johannesburg, South Africa from Bangkok on flight MH0201. During the 12 hour flight he removed his belt-bag and placed it in the back pocket of the seat in front of him.
Mr. Sauvenier disembarked in Johannesburg, leaving behind his belt-bag containing credit cards and a sum of cash in three currencies.
The Inflight Supervisor onboard, Constance Ann Pereira, immediately instructed Flight Stewardess, Kalarani Apparoo to try and locate Mr. Sauvenier at the Immigration/Customs Control Area. Flight Stewardess Kalarani was able to return the belt-bag intact to a delighted
Mr. Sauvenier contacted our Sales Manager in Johannesburg to say, “In that belt-bag I had all my cash money (South African Rand, US Dollars and Thai Bath) plus all my credit cards, a pocket computer and other small but important items.
After a night`s rest I realise how lucky I have been. Should I have lost that belt-bag I would now be making frantic phone calls to cancel my credit cards and trying to remember all other items lost. This is when I decided to let you know how much I appreciated the action of that airhostess. I really cannot tell you how grateful I am for what she did for me.
Working for a Swarovski group of companies I wanted to ask you if I may present a little piece of Swarovski Crystal as a sign of my gratitude. I would like to be sure that it gets to the right person.
I do not know how to vote for the `Best Cabin Staff` but you can be sure that my vote would go to the staff of Malaysia Airlines because you certainly are ` going beyond expectations!”
On 17 January 2003, Mr. Sauvenier again travelled to Johannesburg from Bangkok on flight MH203. Whilst in transit at KLIA, he took the opportunity to present his token of appreciation to our two cabin crew at a small ceremony at our Golden Lounge, KLIA.
