Tiscover Moves into Italy with Trentino Tie-up

is to provide the official new tourism portal of Trentino, Italy`s top tourist region, and so further enhance its development across Europe. Under the three-year agreement, Tiscover will power Trentino`s official tourism portal using the Tiscover system.

The tourism portal (www.trentino.to
) is operated on behalf of the Trentino Tourist Board by the local operating company TrentinoTIS SpA, which was founded in May 2002, with the State of Trentino holding the majority stake. The new company has also attracted the backing of several high-profile organisations in Trentino, all of which will hold a minority stake. Bodies uniting behind the venture include the Trentino chamber of commerce, Camera di Commercio; UNAT and ASAT, two of the region`s largest hotel co-operations, and Tiscover Italia Srl, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tiscover. Tiscover Italia will be responsible for spearheading Tiscover`s growth across Italy, building on the group`s operations in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

According to Trentino, the partnership with Tiscover will enable the region`s DMOs and travel providers to reach a wider audience as the system allows them to distribute across multiple channels, including the internet and call centres, with bookings processed automatically through Tiscover`s back-office functionality.

Trentino is the latest tourism authority to join forces with Tiscover. The company provides the official tourism portal for the whole of Austria and in 2001 was chosen to power the tourism website of Bavaria, Germany`s top tourist region. The Tiscover system is regarded as the world`s most advanced and versatile integrated reservation-distribution solution for the tourism industry, capable of supporting an infinite range of online models. Tiscover operates the world`s leading family of destination portals, with its sites in Austria, Germany, Switzerland and Liechtenstein last year attracting over 57 million visitors, generating 225 million page views.

Tiscover`s executive director Karsten Kärcher commented: “This partnership with Italy`s number one tourism portal is a great way to start our expansion into the country. Tiscover is the most advanced system of its kind and we are looking forward to making Italian tourism achieve the same successes as our central European partners.”
