Vanguard Airlines Reports 14 Percent Increase In April Traffic

Kansas City, Mo.—Vanguard Airlines, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: VNGD) reported traffic for the month of April 2002 of 105.6 million revenue passenger miles (RPMs), a 14 percent increase from 92.9 million RPMs in April 2001. Capacity was 161.8 million available seat miles (ASMs), a 25 percent increase from 129.9 million ASMs in April 2001. Load factor was 65.3 percent, down 6.2 points from 71.5 percent in April 2001 when load factors had been driven by fare initiatives undertaken by Vanguard to stimulate sales. April 2001 also reflected the later Easter holiday travel period.

For the first four months of 2002, load factor increased 2.5 points to 65.3 percent from 62.8 percent; RPMs increased 23 percent to 407.4 million from 331.7 million; and ASMs increased 18 percent to 624.3 million from 528.5 million, in each case as compared to the first four months of 2001.

“Our passenger traffic and bookings continue to grow as customers respond to our expanded service,” said Scott Dickson, CEO and President of Vanguard Airlines. “In April, we introduced service to Orlando and increased service to San Francisco. In May, we have added more flights to Las Vegas and Los Angeles. On June 3, we plan further expansion with new service to Seattle and additional service to New York’s LaGuardia Airport, Orlando and other online destinations.”
