WORLD TRADE CENTRE CRASH - STATEMENT TWO

British Airways today expressed its deepest sympathies at the tragic events witnessed in the USA today.


British Airways Chief Executive Rod Eddington said: “I am speaking on behalf of everyone at British Airways when I say that our thoughts are with the families and friends of those involved in today`s horrific incidents.


“I am personally contacting our colleagues at American Airlines and United Airlines to extend our heart-felt sympathies and offer every assistance.”


He confirmed that no British Airways aircraft was involved in any of the incidents in the United States.


British Airways can confirm that 21 flights en route to the USA at the time of the incidents either diverted to other countries or returned to the UK. In addition, 13 British Airways services from the UK to the USA were cancelled.

There will be no British Airways services operating in or out of the USA tomorrow, Wednesday 12 September.


British Airways serves 21 destinations in the USA, with 23 daily services currently operating from London Heathrow and 12 daily services from London Gatwick. Seven flights are operated per day to New York’s JFK and Newark airports.
