IHG expands Vietnam portfolio

InterContinental Hotels Group has signed its third InterContinental Hotels & Resorts property in Vietnam. Scheduled to open by mid-2009 the InterContinental Danang Resort will be situated on the Son Tra Peninsula, known its pristine and unspoiled beaches.

The 200-room property will be developed by Terra Joint Stock Co. and will join IHG’s collection of 148 InterContinental Hotels & Resorts properties worldwide. It will also expand IHG’s Asia Pacific portfolio of operating and upcoming luxury resorts in Indonesia, Thailand, China, Japan and French Polynesia.

The Son Tra Peninsula on which InterContinental Danang Resort will be located is 20 minutes from Danang International Airport and the city centre. The resort will be developed on 10 hectares of coastal land with its own private beach. This rare site is surrounded by natural lakes and tropical forests.

Danang is a major port city and economic hub in central Vietnam, strategically located to the south of Hanoi and north of Ho Chi Minh City. As one of Vietnam’s largest cities, Danang currently attracts one million visitors annually, and expects to double its annual visitor arrival numbers by 2010. The location’s proximity to various historical, cultural and natural attractions, including UNESCO-listed world heritage sites, makes it the perfect setting for InterContinental Hotels & Resorts which has a global commitment towards providing guests with authentic and enriching ‘in the know’ experiences.

Danang is about two hours by car from the imperial city of Hue and 45 minutes from the ancient “Silk Road” port of Hoi An. The spiritual centre of the Champa civilization of My Son and the Phong Nha caves in Quang BInh Province are also within easy reach. Danang’s strategic location at the end of the east-west Asian corridor links Myanmar with Vietnam through Thailand and Laos.
