Southwest Airlines Reports February Traffic

  Southwest Airlines Co. announced today that the Company flew 3.7 billion
revenue passenger miles (RPMs) in February 2004, an 8.8 percent increase
from the 3.4 billion RPMs flown in February 2003. Available seat miles
(ASMs) increased 9.3 percent to 5.9 billion from the February 2003 level
of 5.4 billion. The load factor for the month was 62.2 percent, compared
to 62.5 percent for the same period last year. Without the extra Leap Year
day, RPMs increased 4.3 percent and ASMs increased 5.6 percent, as
compared to February 2003.
For the first two months of 2004, Southwest flew 7.1 billion RPMs,
compared to the 6.8 billion RPMs recorded for the same period of 2003, an
increase of 4.1 percent. Available seat miles increased 5.8 percent to
12.0 billion from the 2003 level of 11.4 billion. The year-to-date load
factor was 59.2 percent, compared to 60.1 percent for the same period last
year.
