The UK’s Vineyard Triumphs in Top Cuisine Award

Staff at The Vineyard at Stockcross, have been celebrating their success after receiving the prestigious BMW Square Meal Award for å‘Best Out of Town Restaurant 2003å’.

The presentation by the London-based lifestyle magazine Square Meal was made to The Vineyard after it embraced the criteria of offering innovation, creativity, service and overall excellence.
Director of Square Meal, Mark de Wesselow, explains the award is chosen by journalists around the country as well as readers of the magazine. The Best Out of Town Restaurant Award is a restaurant that one would be happy travelling several hundred miles for, that presents a complete package, has visible passion and somewhere you really want to tell you friends about.”

Created around a nineteenth century hunting lodge, The Vineyard at Stockcross in Newbury is renowned as popular gastronomic destination with a first-class spa facility that offers an indoor pool, spa bath, steam room, sauna, gym and relaxation space. The Vineyards Spa Days, which incorporate indulgences such as Pure Relaxation; Ultimate Indulgence; Mind & Body Revival; Chill Out Day; Men’s Grooming; and Bridal Spa Days, also a delicious light lunch from the award-winning kitchen of Chef John Campbell.

“In John Campbell, this destination has clearly got a gem of a chef, who`s pushing back the boundaries while carrying his customers with him. We find his flair and bold, challenging inventiveness very appealing and obviously his customers seem to as well,” added Mark de Wesselow. It is the first time Square Meal has used its readers to nominate their favourite Out-of-Town Restaurant and this year the hotel has beaten off competition from previous winners including Le Manoir aux Quat`Saisons.

Executive chef, John Campbell, says: “I am of course delighted with the `Best Restaurant out of Town 2003` award. The Vineyard was nominated by food journalists and writers as well as the readership of Square Meal magazine, adding more weight to the accolade. Having been at the helm of The Vineyard for only 14 months, the team around me has played an important part in the development and consistency of the product. I feel very privileged being in the company of such salubrious previous winners.”

It is a great boost to our team when awards such as this recognise the huge effort that goes in to providing what we offer. It is particularly rewarding when the award has been voted by the general public.”
