Amtrak planning for new thruway service in Eastern North Carolina

Amtrak plans to expand its Thruway Service to Eastern North Carolina, providing more access and destination options to Amtrak passengers. The proposed Thruway Motor Coach service will provide access from Eastern North Carolina to the Wilson, N.C. Amtrak Station. At the Wilson station, passengers can connect to the Palmetto which operates two trains daily between New York and Savannah, Ga. and also access the Amtrak national system serving more than 500 stations in 46 states, the District of Columbia and three Canadian provinces.

Using safe, modern, clean and comfortable intercity motor coach equipment, Amtrak Thruway Service will provide easy, convenient coordinated train/motor coach connections. Based on successful models in many other states, the Eastern North Carolina expansion will work well to serve these diverse communities and destinations.

The proposed Thruway Service routes will provide service to colleges and universities, major military installations, and a number of cities and communities that have limited intercity public transportation options.
Amtrak is actively working with these communities to secure service stops at each location and refine schedules, and anticipates launching the expansion later this year.
