Air Malta launches mobile phone check-in

Passengers travelling with or without baggage can now easily check-in and select their seat onboard Air Malta flights through their internet-enabled mobile phones. With this new technology Air Malta is making checking-in for flights even easier for its customers.

Air Malta passengers can now login onto from their mobile phone as early as 23 hours and up to 2 hours prior the scheduled departure time. Passengers can check in for their flight simply by entering their name and flight number and have their bar-coded boarding pass delivered to their mobile phone in an image format. Apart from being able to choose their seat on board the aircraft, passengers can go through the airport formalities prior to entering the restricted area at the departure gates simply by displaying the boarding card image on their mobile phone.

Speaking about this innovative service Joe Cappello, Air Malta’s Chief Executive, said, “Following the encouraging feedback and take-up of check-in through our web portal launched last year, we went a step further and are now are offering check-in facilities through mobile phones.

“Only a few airlines in the world have started to use this technology and we are excited to be one of the first. With the introduction of these new facilities and investment in new technologies we are reaffirming our commitment to our passengers by offering them an even easier service at the airport.

“We are not only simplifying the check-in process, but also, through reducing paper, we are helping our environment,” added Cappello.

Passengers travelling with baggage can also make use of mobile check-in, however they must proceed to the drop-off web check-in counter and check in their luggage on arrival at the airport.

As a start Air Malta started offering mobile check-in for its flights departing from Malta to all its destinations, however it will be expanding this service to incoming flights at selected airports in the near future.

This new service will complement the recently launched web check-in through Air Malta’s portal and the traditional check-in service at Malta International Airport.

Unlike other airlines, Air Malta is offering traditional, web, and mobile check-in for free.

Air Malta is committed to continue enhancing its customer’s experience with new products and services to remain the best value focused and consistently reliable carrier operating the Malta routes.
