As an official partner of global children’s charity Unicef, Alcudia-based family hotel Club MAC is playing its part to help eradicate child exploitation.

Club MAC, one of five hotels under the Mac Hotels umbrella, has raised an impressive €13,495 for the charity in the past two years. In total, Mac Hotels has handed over €30,000 to Unicef to aid the fight in eradicating child sexual exploitation through communication and training activities.

As part of the hotel chain’s Social Responsibility Programme, Club MAC has been in partnership with Hoteles Amigos - a Unicef initiative for Spanish hotels - since 2013.

Director Miguel Amengual explained why the initiative held particular importance to Mac Hotels: “Club MAC Alcudia is a specialised family resort and around 30% of our guests staying at the hotel are children. As a group of hotels we are committed to supporting Unicef’s programme, one which has a very important preventive aspect.

“We are proud to support the charity with great enthusiasm and dedication to the work of Unicef.”

The money raised over the past two has been thanks to the help of the hotel’s guests who have actively got involved with Club MAC’s activities. The hotel hosts a variety of family themed activities throughout the season as well as dedicating one day per season to a Unicef event. Participation from families and children is always extremely high.

Additionally, Club MAC Alcudia has been awarded the Travelife Gold Certificate since 2012, the highest accolade awarded by the tourism company.

Travelife is an international sustainability certification scheme for hotels, which covers issues such as: human rights; child protection and employee welfare.

As a gold certificate holder, Club MAC have met Travelife’s strict criteria of operating fair practices whilst protecting their guests, employees and the local community in the region in which they operate.
