The London 2012 Olympic Flame has been lit in Ancient Olympia, Greece ahead of the start of the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay on May 18th. Actors dressed in the robes of the ancient Greeks perform in the ancient Olympic stadium following the lighting ceremony at the Temple of Hera in Ancient Olympia, Greece.

Hugh Robertson, minister for sport & the Olympics, has told the UK parliament the London 2012 Olympic Games are likely to come in under budget. “Now 96 per cent complete we remain on time and on budget with more than £500 million of uncommitted contingency remaining,” he said, “this is a good position to be in with 150 days to go and sets us up.”

The London 2012 Organising Committee has taken temporary ownership of the Olympic and Paralympic Sailing Village in Portland ahead of the Games this summer. The Osprey Quay development, which will contain 84 residential units, will house competitors and team officials taking part in the London 2012 sailing events in Weymouth and Portland.
