Delta raises prices following ETS introduction, but China says it will not pay
Delta Air Lines has become the first carrier in the United States to confirm it will introduce a surcharge in order to pass the costs of the new European Emissions Trading Scheme on to passengers. However, China Air Transport Association has said Chinese carriers will not pay the new tax, arguing the EU was wrong to act unilaterally.

SkyTeam welcomes China Airlines
SkyTeam has welcomed China Airlines as its 15th member. The airline, also one of the world’s leading cargo carriers, becomes the first Taiwanese airline to join SkyTeam.

China Airlines offers Taipei-Osaka-New York service
China Airlines has confirmed it will alter its services between Taipei and New York with a stop over in Osaka, Japan, instead of Anchorage, Alaska. CAL will operate three round-trip flights per week on the route untilising Boeing 747-400 aircraft.

China plans 45 new airports over next five years
Authorities in Beijing have unveiled plans for a mega aviation infrastructure construction spree that includes 45 new airports over the next five years. Industry regulator, the Civil Aviation Administration, said the new investments would take China’s total number of airports to 220. However concerns have been raised about overcapacity, given that most of the country’s existing airports are currently loss-making.

China Airlines joins SkyTeam
China Airlines has confirmed its intention to join the SkyTeam network in mid-2011. The airline – the flag carrier of Taiwan – will follow in the footsteps of China Eastern which signed an agreement to join SkyTeam earlier this year.

Japan Airlines and China Eastern Airlines iIncrease codeshare flights
Japan Airlines (JAL) and China Eastern Airlines (MU) have reached an agreement to expand their codeshare partnership. From June 3, 2010, JAL will start to codeshare on 7 daily MU-operated flights between Shanghai (Pudong) and three other Chinese cities - Xi’an, Wuhan and Shenzhen.
