Sickness bug hits 130 passengers on Fred Olsen Cruise

A total of 130 passengers have contracted a sickness and diarrhoea bug on board a 12-night luxury cruise carrying 778 guests.

The Fred Olsen Black Watch cruise ship, which departed on 8 September had sailed from Fife to Scandinavia and then to St Petersburg

A remaining 29 people were still reported to be ill when the ship returned to Rosyth yesterday, where it is now docked.

A spokeswoman for Fred Olsen said: “Every effort was made to contain the illness, in accordance with onboard medical protocols. 

“Representatives from the local health authorities have been on board the ship this morning and have confirmed that they are satisfied with the containment and preventative measures being undertaken by the ship.”

Specialist cleaners have been on board to check and fumigate the ship.
