Israel to host first Jerusalem International Ice Festival

Jerusalem will take centre stage as it is set to host 35 of China’s top ice sculptors and artists from 6th March to 30th April 2012, during the city’s first International Ice Festival.

The festival is to be held at the old Jerusalem Train Compound and will not only showcase the artists’ work, but several ice rinks as well as a variety of activities and entertainment, which is expected to draw thousands of tourists and locals alike.

Set in a minus 10 degree atmosphere, organisers of the event have divided the festival into four sections designed to entertain adults and children of all ages.

Each section will be separated by ice Jaffa gates and beautifully carved paths.

The four sections of the Jerusalem International Ice Festival will include:
·      The Jerusalem of Ice exhibit, which will feature ice sculptures depicting the unique sites of Jerusalem, including the Tower of David, the Montefiore Flour Mill and the infamous “Monster”

·      The Animals and Childhood Stories exhibit, where the artists’ will depict characters from well-known childhood stories

·      The Fantasy Arena will be home to sculptures from fairytales such as Hansel and Gretel and Snow White. Children will also be given the opportunity to play on a playground made entirely of ice

·      The Ice Bar will be decorated with sculptures by Israeli artists and will be serving ice cold drinks throughout the festival
