Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant draws thousands of visitors

Thousands of visitors will descend in London today to get a glimpse of the 1,000-strong flotilla of boats sailing down the River Thames, celebrating the Queen’s Jubilee.

Decorated boats ranging from historic boats,rowing boats, to canoes and pleasure vessels of all shapes and sizes will escort The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh down the River Thames.

Prince Charles, the Duchess of Cornwell, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry will also be onboard.

Kicking off at 2pm, the formal procession will start at Battersea Bridge and conclude near Tower Bridge.

Security has been stepped up for the occasion, with more than 13,000 police and security. Including armed forces and rescue services deployed – the biggest ever royal security operation.

There will be an exuberance of historic boats, wooden launches, steam vessels and other boats of note.

It will be one of the largest flotillas ever assembled on the river with rowed boats, working boats and pleasure vessels of all shapes and sizes decked out with streamers and Union Flags.
