Sheffield students benefit from East Midlands Trains partnership

Students at Sheffield University will now find it even easier to travel by train after East Midlands Trains teamed up with the university to install a new ticket-collection machine in the Students’ Union.

Located in the plaza opposite the Welcome Desk in the Students’ Union building, the new style ‘ticket on departure’ machine means that students and university employees can quickly and easily book their tickets online at eastmidlandstrains.co.uk and then collect them after two hours from the Sheffield Students Union.

Jayne Moyses, Head of Sales & Customer Service Centre for East Midlands Trains, said:  “We’re pleased to be working in partnership with Sheffield University Students’ Union to make it easier for students and university employees to access their train tickets. With many passengers now choosing to buy their tickets through our website, we wanted to provide even better access to the 25,000 students at Sheffield University simply wanting to collect their pre-booked tickets.

“Students booking online at eastmidlandstrains.co.uk can already get access to the cheapest fares through our Best Fare Finder, and it’s great that we have teamed up with the university to provide an easier way for them to collect any UK pre-booked rail ticket.”

Ally Buckle, President for the Students Union, added: “We aim to provide students with the practical services they need, and nothing says this more than the ticket machine. It also promotes more environmentally friendly forms of travel which fits into our ethos as an organisation. I can conclusively say that this machine will make an everyday difference to our students”.

In addition to students and staff at the university, nearby businesses such as the Hallamshire Hospital will also be able to use the ticket machine. This is only the second ticket-collection machine that East Midlands Trains has installed outside of a railway station.  The first one was installed at Loughborough University in summer 2012.
