Record year for Vienna tourism as figures spike

Vienna’s tourism industry has just experienced its best ever year, recoding 13.5 million visitor overnights.

This is some 6.3 per cent higher than in 2013, and represents a new all-time high.

A total of 6,211,000 arrivals were recorded, an increase of 6.4 per cent.

“International bed nights account for around 82 per cent of Vienna’s total volume of bed nights.

“This not only reflects Vienna’s continued attractiveness, but also shows that our long-term systematic internationalisation strategy diversifying into many different markets is paying off,” explained Norbert Kettner, managing director of the Vienna Tourist Board.

His objective now is to increase Vienna’s overnight figures to 18 million by the year 2020.

In 2014, Vienna’s ten top markets were once again headed by Germany with 2,650,000 bed nights, which was up by five per cent from the previous year.

Austria, the USA, Italy, and Russia made up the top five markets.

In 2015 Vienna celebrates the 150th anniversary of the Ringstrasse Boulevard with a colourful programme.

The 60th Eurovision Song Contest from May 19th to 23rd will also place Vienna in the international spotlight.
