International superstar Kylie Minogue has recently spent time in Doha, taking time out for a culturally enriching experience, discovering the varied and exciting activities on offer in the Middle Eastern country. 

Qatar has fast established itself as the cultural hub of the Middle East.

Visitors, including Kylie, can choose from a number of leading museums and galleries to experience the flourishing creativity of the region.

Many of Qatar’s attractions are rooted in the destination’s culture and environment, showcasing a selection of ground-breaking exhibitions, stunning architecture and beautiful works of art.

Kylie’s first stop was one of Qatar Museum’s highlights, the Museum of Islamic Art.

An architectural masterpiece set on the waterfront, MIA celebrates the full scope of Islamic art from manuscripts and ceramics to textiles and precious stones, featuring a wide variety of exhibits from around the world.

The museum runs different themed exhibitions and this month head to MIA to discover the history of board games in the Islamic world.

Kylie also had a chance to visit the Etel Adnan in All Her Dimensions exhibition at Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art.

Mathaf commemorates the modern and contemporary, showcasing art created in Qatar, the wider Middle East and from the international Arab population.

Until July 6th 2014, visitors to Mathaf have the opportunity to walk in Kylie’s footsteps and visit Etel Adnan’s highly visual exhibition.

The exhibition explores the many different dimensions of Adnan’s work including her paintings, drawings, tapestries and films.

Ground breaking exhibitions are a regular occurrence in Qatar, and Richard Serra’s contemporary Passage of Time exhibition is one example of this.

At cultural hub Katara Cultural village, the Qatar Museums Gallery presents a more intimate venue, popular for public art projects.

The gallery is a constant hub of activity and is a platform for Qatar’s emerging museums to present their collections and projects.

These museums and exhibitions are only part of an extensive list of cultural experiences on offer in Qatar, encouraging both leisure and business travellers to sample the destination’s fascinating rich culture and heritage.
