Operating smooth and profitable railways in the Middle East

“Rail projects in the Middle East is a serious topic with a number of projects already in the planning and the implementation phases. Safety, security and accuracy of real-time passenger/traveler information is paramount to the success of any transport network. Therefore considering the wider ITS applications from the project inception, it reduces the costs of ITS implementations by more than 50%.” - Mohammed Serroukh, Director General at ITS Arab. He expressed his views on the current status of rail transport in Saudi Arabia and about necessary action to be taken in the ongoing Middle East Rail Projects. Serroukh who is a part of the speaker panel at the 4th Annual Middle East Rail Opportunities will address the audience on ‘The next generation railway technology - Building an intelligent transport system’.

Arriyadh Development Authority will be presenting on the Riyadh Metro Project at the conference to be held on 6 - 7 May 2013 at MENA Grand Khaldia Hotel (soon to be Four Points by Sheraton Riyadh Khaldia) in Riyadh. ADA has received bids for the five main construction contracts on the estimated $7bn-8bn Riyadh metro project. The $7-8bn scheme has been divided into five major packages. ADA will be discussing on Metro network across the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the economic feasibility of the rail-road network.

Abdullah Balhaddad, Vice President of Saudi Railways Organisation and Member of Railway Land Bridge Project Steering Committee will also address the audience at the conference on ‘Safety technology in railways’. The presentation highlights railway safety as a ongoing process which starts from the design stage till operations. Abdullah will present this topic at the time when the GCC countries are establishing their railway in the gulf environment which is a challenge in itself. This will not only benefit the attendees but also solution providors at the conference to have a better understanding of the current scenario related to safety.

Case studies on successful railway networks, and address key challenges, strategies and opportunities which will drive the transport industry across the Middle East in the following years will be a part of the summit. This forum will educate the attendees on the latest rail development initiatives undertaken by the governments in the region. Acknowledging the current investments by the government of Saudi Arabia, the Kingdom has become an attractive market with immense potential for many investors both local and international.
