Hotel guests turn loyalty points into cash to help Haiti earthquake victims

21st Jan 2010

Guests at Best Western - the UK’s biggest independent hotel group - have been handing over their loyalty points in their thousands in the last few days in a bid to help the aid effort on the devastated Caribbean island.

The UK-based hotel group launched the ‘cash for points’ initiative only last Friday and have been overwhelmed by the hugely-positive response from their loyal guests. So far 1.2 million points have been donated raising over £3k for the relief campaign.

On Friday the Best Western Rewards Team issued an email to all its Rewards customers asking if they would like to convert their Rewards points to cash to be given to the Haiti disaster fund.

Best Western spokesman Tim Wade said: “Within one hour we had 174,000 points donated and the total from over the weekend is up to 730,000. It equates to £1.5k so far and is rising all the time. It is being donated through our ongoing partnership with Save the Children.”

The devastating earthquake hit the Caribbean island of Haiti on January 12, killing more than 50,000 people and leaving hundreds of thousands of children without food, clean water and shelter.

Save the Children is already in Haiti, responding to the earthquake and urgently needs more funding to continue their work to reach the most vulnerable children and families.

Anyone who has Best Western Reward points who would like to donate their cash equivalent to help the Haiti aid effort should go to or call the hotel group on 0845 337 6037.
