Travelport has announced the appointment of Douglas Steenland as vice chairman of its board of directors, with immediate affect.

He will serve on the compensation, audit and executive committees of the board.

Commenting on the appointment, Jeff Clarke, executive chairman of Travelport said: “I am delighted to welcome Doug to the Travelport board of directors.

“Doug brings a wealth of relevant industry, executive and board experience to the company.”

Steenland held numerous executive roles during seventeen years with Northwest Airlines Corporation, most latterly as president and chief executive officer - from October 2004 until its merger with Delta Air Lines in October 2008.

He is currently a senior advisor to the Blackstone Private Equity Group, chairman of the board of Performance Food Group and holds a portfolio of board directorships.
