Disney announces Alaska cruises

Disney Cruise Line is launching an Alaska programme for the first time in summer 2011.

The four-month season of seven-night sailings aboard the Disney Wonder will offer 18 cruises departing out of Vancouver and calling in at a number of ports including Tracy Arm, Juneau, Ketchikan and Skagway.

To prepare for the Alaska sailings, Disney Wonder will be refitted with a new venue called the Outlook Café where guests can look at the wildlife through floor-to-ceiling, curved glass windows.

The 2,500 square foot café will be designed in an Art Deco style and connected with a spiral staircase to the existing Cove Café a deck below.

The first cruise departs Vancouver on May 3 with the last cruise of the season scheduled for August 30.

Rates for the seven-night Alaskan itinerary start at $939 per person for a standard inside stateroom, based on double occupancy.

Before and after the 2011 summer season in Alaska, the Disney Wonder will sail seven-night cruises from the Port of Los Angeles to Cabo San Lucas, Mazatlán and Puerto Vallarta.

Disney Magic will return to the Mediterranean in 2011 with 10- and 11-night cruises sailing out of Barcelona.

As well as ports in Italy, France and Spain, Disney Magic will visit Tunis in northern Africa and Malta.

Travel agents will be able to book Disney Wonder itineraries for the 2011 season beginning September 28, 2009.
