Soneva Gili Resort & Spa Named as Hotel of the Year

Soneva Gili Resort & Spa has been named as Hotel of the Year by the Tatler Travel Guide 101 Best Hotels.
When Soneva Gili first opened in 2001 it was the first all-over-water resort in the Maldives, consisting of 44 villas, the Six Senses Spa, and extensive recreation facilities. å“The villas are a theatrical triumphå”, writes Tatler Travel Guide, å“At one with the universe: in the Crusoe Villas, which you reach in your own canoe, there are two bedrooms, one inside and air-conditioned, the other, outdoors on the rooftopå”.

Tatler Travel Guide introduces Soneva Gili as “The new hideaway created by Sonu and Eva Shivdasani… both are very glamorous… very Mayfair and the South of France. What they have done with Gili is the most stylish, mould-breaking design. The bathrooms are vast open-air temples, with views over the lagoon, steps down to the water garden, a shower that is positively Philippe Starck and a huge dressing area for the clothes you’re never going to wear”.

The Six Senses Spa offers everything expected, and some things unexpected; glass floor-panels beneath massage tables heighten the sensual experience, whilst a Maldivian sand massage is included in the vast menu of holistic wellness and rejuvenating treatments on offer.

The villas continue the Soneva philosophy espoused by its sister resort, the multi award-winning Soneva Fushi Resort & Spa, of Intelligent Luxury. They are crafted in a traditional style from natural materials, yet offer every creature comfort including a personal entertainment centre. For the ultimate privacy, seven Crusoe Villas are only accessible by personal boat.

It is a fifteen-minute speed-boat ride from the Maldivian capital, Male to Soneva Gili, passing en route a string of islands, each surrounded by a turquoise lagoon. During this short journey, guests are invited to remove their shoes as they prepare to enjoy the Soneva lifestyle of No News - No Shoes.
The Maldives is also a paradise for under-water activities and the resort has its own fully -equipped PADI diving school plus a variety of water sports.
