Delta Premiers New York Chefs

NEW YORK, Oct. 3, 2002 - Delta Air Lines (NYSE:DAL) will introduce its New York Chefs In-Flight program to BusinessElite U.S. customers, beginning Oct. 3. The new meal service, specially designed by one of New York’s finest chefs, Troy Dupuy of La Caravelle restaurant, will be available on most Delta BusinessElite U.S. flights between New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport and Los Angeles International or San Francisco International airports.

To celebrate the launch of this program, customers who book roundtrip BusinessElite U.S. tickets between New York-JFK and Los Angeles or San Francisco will have the opportunity to earn a maximum of 10,000 miles in Delta’s SkyMiles program.

Delta’s New York Chefs In-Flight program, created in partnership with American Express and NYC & Company, will highlight a different top New York City chef every quarter through September 2003. The program will include unique entree offerings and a keepsake in-flight menu highlighting the chef and restaurant. Additionally, SkyMiles members will earn double miles when they use the Delta SkyMiles Credit Card to pay for their dining charges at La Caravelle from Oct. 1 through Dec. 31, 2002.

“Delta is excited to offer a special taste of the Big Apple to its customers,” said Patrice Miles, vice president of Consumer Marketing for Delta. “This program provides the very best of the New York dining experience while in-flight and extends the enjoyment with a special American Express offer for those who want to experience the restaurant first hand. We are delighted to begin this partnership with Chef Troy Dupuy and La Caravelle.”

“Fine dining is a hallmark of New York City and it only makes sense that travelers should be able to enjoy the quintessential New York experience even while in-flight.  We’re excited to showcase New York’s finest chefs and promote dining out in New York,” said Thomas Tierney, vice president - airline industries, American Express.

Named after a light sailing ship used during the age of the great explorers, La Caravelle has reigned as one of Manhattan’s finest French restaurants since 1960. Today, La Caravelle continues to be a place to see and be seen. It was best summed up in 1998 by The New York Times - “No restaurant in New York does a better job at guarding its traditions while honoring the present.”

“We are delighted to be part of this first-time collaboration, ” says Rita Jammet, co-proprietor of La Caravelle restaurant. “Our ultimate goal is to showcase the wonderfully unique qualities that our beautiful New York City offers.”

As an official sponsor of NYC & Company since October 2001, Delta is committed to supporting everything there is to do, see and experience in New York. This promotion is one of the many examples of how Delta has teamed up with NYC & Company to make a difference in New York.

“New York City is the best restaurant city in the world, and now Delta and American Express are teaming up so that BusinessElite U.S. passengers can sample the creations of some of the world’s best chefs while relaxing on their flight,” said Cristyne L. Nicholas, president & CEO of NYC & Company, the city’s official tourism marketing organization.  “When they’re in New York, they can visit one of the city’s great restaurants in person.”
