AA welcomes direct service to Las Vegas

The Airport Authority (AA) today welcomed Singapore International Airlines` (SIA) inaugural flight to Las Vegas via Hong Kong.
Originating in Singapore, it will be the only direct service between Hong Kong and the US entertainment capital. As well as being North America`s most popular venue for conferences and exhibitions, Las Vegas is also a gateway to the southwestern United States, specifically Nevada, Arizona and Utah.
AA Chief Executive Officer Dr David J Pang said the new service would connect two of the world`s leading convention and tourist destinations across the Pacific.
“Las Vegas obviously has many attractions for visitors from this part of the world,” Dr Pang said. “At the same time, Hong Kong is one of Asia`s leading convention and exhibition venues, with Hong Kong International Airport set to be the site of the city`s second major Exhibition Centre by 2005. With the opening of Hong Kong Disney theme park at about the same time, we expect to see more business and leisure travellers coming to Hong Kong.”
Flight SQ10 will depart Hong Kong on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays at 2300 hours and arrive at Las Vegas`s McCarran airport at 2145 hours the same day. The return flight, SQ9, will depart Las Vegas at 0700 hours on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, arriving in Hong Kong at 1300 hours the following day.
