Continental Airlines Reports August Load Factor

Continental Airlines (NYSE: CAL and CAL.A) today reported a systemwide load factor of 77.1 percent in August, the second highest August load factor ever for the company, and 1.1 points below last year`s record.

In August 1999, Continental flew 5.8 billion revenue passenger miles (RPMs) and 7.5 billion available seat miles (ASMs), resulting in a traffic increase of 9.3 percent on a capacity increase of 10.8 percent versus August 1998. International traffic was 2.2 billion RPMs, up 21.5 percent from August 1998 and international capacity was 2.8 billion ASMs, up 18.1 percent from last year.
Continental Express, Continental`s wholly owned regional subsidiary, reported its highest August load factor ever of 64.4 percent, beating last August by 0.9 points based on 206.5 million RPMs and 320.4 million ASMs. Continental Express August traffic was up 38.2 percent and August capacity was up 36.1 percent from last year.
