American Airlines Reports January Traffic Results

FORT WORTH, Texas - American Airlines reported its systemwide traffic in January decreased 15.6 percent from a year ago, on a capacity decrease of 17.8 percent. The system load factor for January was 65.9 percent, up 1.7 points from January 2001.


American’s January on-time arrival dependability, reported to the Department of Transportation, was 83.0 percent, compared to 76.6 percent a year ago. The airline’s January completion factor - the number of flights flown expressed as a percentage of the number of flights scheduled - for the month was 99 percent, compared to 95.5 percent a year ago.


International traffic in January was down 21.5 percent, while international capacity was down 21.3 percent. Domestic traffic was down 13.0 percent while domestic capacity dropped 16.4 percent.


American boarded 7.0 million passengers in January, down 14.9 percent from January a year ago.
