DEMA `gears up` to party

Just one week away, DEMA Show 2003, the largest trade event of its kind, will feature some of the industries hottest new products, celebrity appearances by some of the most notable names in the dive industry, and an almost endless amount of exciting events including a live webcast and DEMA Fashion Show on the Show floor, and parties, parties, parties.

On Thursday October 9, the Miami Alliance of Dive Operators (MADO) will host a party at Level Nightclub in South Beach. 
Beginning at 8:00 p.m. all Show participants are invited to party South Beach-style at one of Miami Beach’s hottest nightclubs. There will be D.J’s, dancing and drinks all with a dive/underwater theme. Level Nightclub is located at 1235 Washington Avenue in Miami Beach, just a few blocks from the Miami Beach Convention Center and most South Beach hotels. Admission is free for DEMA attendees but for just US$10 you can drink unlimited beer, alcohol and soft drinks from 8:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. 

On Friday October 10, the Historical Diving Society and the Academy of Underwater Arts and Sciences will host the Diving Industry Awards Gala. Featuring the second annual Wyland ICON Awards the event will take place at the Loews Hotel, Miami Beach.  The 2003 ICON Award recipients are well-known marine biologist and scientist Dr. Sylvia Earle, PADI CEO and co-founder John J. Cronin and scuba diving journalist Paul Tzimoulis.  Tickets for the gala and dinner are $75 and the event begins at 6:00 p.m.
Also on October 10 from 7:00 p.m. - midnight, DEMA will host the DEMA
Awards Party. All Show participants are invited to dance the night away at what is expected to be the largest dive industry social event of its kind.  The DEMA Awards Party will feature live music, Latin-influenced food, an art auction hosted by Wyland and the presentation of the DEMA Reaching Out Awards, all hosted by Master of Ceremonies, Stan Waterman. This year’s award recipients are Edward Christini, President of SSI; Jim Church, a pioneer of underwater photography; and Jean Gallagher, diving education pioneer and Co-Owner of Marin Skin Diving. The cost to attend the Party is $60. The party will take place at the Fontainebleau Hilton Resort.
