Khamsa gets Ramada rebranding

The 310-room Khamsa Hotel in Gammarth, Tunisia, has joined the Ramada International lodging system and has been renamed Ramada Plaza Tunis at a re-flagging ceremony. The hotel, owned by the Malta-based Corinthia Group and operated by Corinthia Hotels International (CHI), is the first property to operate under the Ramada brand in this exciting North-African destination.

Located on the ‘Cote de Carthage’, close to the Capital Tunis, the Ramada Plaza Tunis previously traded under the Corinthia Brand, which brand has since been upgraded to reflect the Company’s upper 5-Star Deluxe properties only. The hotel will however retain its formal 5-star rating. The Ramada Plaza Tunis is the second hotel operated by Corinthia Hotels International to be re-positioned on the market under the Ramada Plaza brand, the other hotel being the Ramada Plaza Budapest in Hungary, formerly the Corinthia Aquincum Hotel. Both hotels will continue to be operated by Corinthia Hotels International in line with its joint venture agreement with the US based Wyndham Hotel Group. The Ramada International’s portfolio consists of some 900 hotels in 33 countries around the globe.

” We are absolutely delighted with our latest Ramada Plaza property in Tunisia, which adds to our ever growing African presence”  said Corinthia Hotels International CEO Tony Potter, “Since Wyndham Group’s involvement as a stakeholder and joint venture partner in CHI, our company has had the opportunity to develop further our management of international branded properties throughout the European, African and Middle Eastern regions. With CHI’s ability to operate under the Ramada Plaza and Wyndham brands, in addition to the Corinthia brand, we remain confident of making significant progress and additions to our managed portfolio over the next few years. Our operational and sales and marketing reach is considerably extended through the joint venture with Wyndham and our management resources and ability are now amongst the strongest in the region” concluded the CHI Chief Executive Officer.

Welcoming US Ambassador to Tunisia HE Robert F. Godec, Ramada Plaza representative Mr Edwin Broers and some 250 distinguished guests at the inaugural Gala Dinner at the Hotel, General Manager Moncef M Guitouni said “We are excited about becoming a Ramada Plaza hotel and indeed the flag-bearer for the Ramada Brand in Tunisia. Eleven years of Corinthia operations have given this hotel an excellent reputation as one of Tunisia’s leading business and leisure hotels. Ramada Plaza’s strong brand presence on the International scene now provides us with a perfect platform from which to reach an ever-wider customer base for our top class product” concluded the hotel’s general manager.

The Ramada Plaza Tunis, which has just completed an extensive renovation programme of all of its bedrooms and corridors, offers 310 air-conditioned rooms and suites, 24-hour room service, conference and banqueting facilities for up to 600 delegates, secretarial and business services, an extensive fitness centre, four pools, four restaurants, bars and lounges, private sandy beach with facilities for horse-riding, biking and trekking and the use of nearby tennis courts and a golf course.
