U.S. and Singapore military forces look setto join an air search for the wreckage of an Adam Air jet that disappeared three days ago off the Indonesian island of Sulawesi.

The Adam Air Boeing 737-400 disappeared in heavy rain with 102 people on board halfway through a flight from Surabaya, on central Java island, to Manado.

Bad weather and the rugged landscape of the mountainous island were hampering the search for the plane, officials told Agence France Presse.

Searches is being based on personal reports from residents on Sulawesi.

It is also concentrating on the sea off Majene, 40 kilometres (25 miles) west of Polewali, as well as areas inland based on coordinates from distress signals from the plane and its last known position.
