Marston completes £3 mn refurb

Luxury 4-star operator Marston Hotels, now part of The QHotels Group, has transformed its Oxford Belfry, near Thame, following a £3 million refurbishment.

The improvements include 24 new penthouse bedrooms; the introduction of seven spa treatment rooms to the hotel’s leisure club, along with a new state-of-the-art gymnasium and dance studio; and an extended bar area with 42in plasma TV screen and wireless connection.

One of the first visitors to enjoy the new-look Oxford Belfry has been MP David Cameron. Just days after refurbishment work was completed, the Conservative leader joined Channel 4 News presenter Jon Snow at the hotel as guest speaker at the Federation of Small Business Thames Valley Regional AGM and Dinner.

According to the hotel’s general manager, Gary Aymes, the new facilities are already proving a big hit with guests. He said: “The new bedrooms are in great demand thanks to their contemporary design and the extra space they offer, and the bright, modern style that we’ve introduced in the lounge and restaurant areas has been very well received. Our Reflections Spa and Leisure Club members and residents alike are delighted with the additional and upgraded facilities, in particular the treatment rooms and spa lounge. Spa treatment bookings have shot up, especially at weekends, and we’re already taking on more beauty therapists to cope with demand. We’ve also seen an increase in leisure club membership.”

Marston Hotels embarked on its extensive refurbishment programme at The Oxford Belfry to meet the growing demand for additional bedrooms at Executive Plus level and to enhance its leisure club offering. The hotel now has 154 bedrooms, including suites with walk-in shower and jacuzzi bath.
