Iberostar continues global expansion

The expansion plans of Iberostar Hotels & Resorts are set to continue apace in 2007, with nine new resorts opening across three continents. Iberostar’s existing portfolio of predominantly four and five star resorts across the world will be joined by six new properties in Europe (two in Bulgaria and one each in Greece, Sardinia and Turkey), three in the Caribbean (Mexico, Jamaica and Cuba) and one in Africa (Tunisia), taking the total number of Iberostar properties to over 100.

The family owned Spanish hotel chain which opened its first Brazilian hotel in May 2006 is also branching into two new destinations in 2007: Sardinia and Jamaica.  The new five star Iberostar Rose Hall Beach in Jamaica is due to open with a beachfront location in Montego Bay in February 2007. This will be the first Iberostar hotel with an All-Ocean-View configuration, allowing guests to enjoy a sea view from virtually any point in the hotel.  Additional features will include three specialty restaurants, two connected pools divided by a swim up bar with an infinity pool, Scuba diving, water sports and a mini club for children between the ages of 4 and 12 years.

The second new destination is the increasingly popular island of Sardinia which will become home to its first Iberostar property in April 2007, when the four star Iberostar Carlos V opens at Alghero on the eastern coast.  Billed to be ideal for the honeymoon market, the newly refurbished hotel is in a secluded location and all rooms feature either a balcony or terrace.  Other facilities include two sea-water swimming pools, a children’s pool, and shiatsu massage.

Iberostar will also open its first property on the Greek island of Rhodes in 2007.  The four star Iberostar Lindos Royal Village will be the 14th Greek property for the chain.  Only 300 m from the beach, the Greek Village style complex has a private bay and will offer lots of activities for children including a mini club, children’s pool, table tennis and volleyball.

Heike Genschow, Director of Marketing for Iberostar Hotels & Resorts commented: “We are very excited about what 2007 has in store for Iberostar. With a new presence in some of the most popular destinations in the world and the opening of our 100th hotel, we feel that Iberostar is now firmly on the map as an international brand. As well as continued expansion, our philosophy is to constantly reinvest in our existing portfolio so that we can maintain the highest quality that our guests expect to enjoy.”
