Princess Cruises deploys MICROS

Princess Cruises has selected the MICROS 9700 Hospitality and Retail Management System (HMS) as its next generation technology foundation. Four ships have deployed MICROS 9700 including the Crown Princess, the newest ‘jewel’ of the fleet, which deployed 90 MICROS Workstation 4 terminals throughout its food & beverage operations. Two additional ships, Star Princess and Golden Princess, will deploy the MICROS 9700 solution by year end.

Converting from MICROS 8700 to MICROS 9700, Princess Cruises conducted a thorough evaluation of the new technology prior to deployment. MICROS performed a seamless conversion while migrating all of Princess’ MICROS 8700 custom scripts, resulting in the preservation of functionality for the 3 ships upgraded, Dawn Princess, Regal Princess, and the Pacific Star, a ship in the P&O Cruises Australia fleet, a sister company to Princess Cruises, also supported by Princess’ IT Department.

“Princess Cruises has maintained a long term partnership with MICROS, deploying the MICROS 8700 throughout its fleet 10 years ago,” stated Mark Dundore, Vice President of Application Systems for Princess Cruises. “The MICROS 9700 allowed us to leverage our existing custom reports, hardware and interfaces, which saved time and money in the upgrade process. All of our upgrades will utilize the legacy hardware that is already deployed providing a significantly lower total cost of system ownership.” By enabling Princess Cruises to take full advantage of its previous MICROS equipment, savings for interface training, programming, and hardware have contributed to the cruise line’s return on investment.

“The MICROS 9700 is a very flexible and comprehensive system, yet it is intuitive and straightforward. This has enabled our two analysts, Jennifer Sorenson and Ed Hooper to support the 1300+ POS devices deployed on our 17 ships while simultaneously implementing the 9700 upgrade across the fleet. With minimal user retraining and no MICROS assistance required, our total cost of ownership is significantly reduced,” continued Mr. Dundore.

“MICROS is pleased to continue and strengthen our partnership with Princess Cruises,” stated Jenny Kurdle, Executive Vice President, Leisure and Entertainment Business Unit for MICROS Systems, Inc. “MICROS 9700 is a very flexible product that easily adapts to the unique needs of the cruise industry.”
