Al Aqah wins World Travel Awards

For the second year in a row, Le Meridien Al Aqah has done the UAE proud, winning top honors in one of the most hotly-contested categories at the prestigious World Travel Awards (WTA), which celebrates excellence in the global tourism industry. At a glittering awards ceremony on the beautiful island of Turks & Caicos, the East Coast getaway walked away with the ‘Middle East’s Leading Beach Resort’ crown for the second year in a row.

‘This award is even more significant and valuable to us because the world travel industry has acknowledged us for the second year in a row in the same category, a testament to the outstanding resort experience we have to offer the global tourism market,’

said Patrick Antaki, general manager, Le Meridien Al Aqah Beach Resort.

‘Stunning natural surroundings, the highest levels of service and an unparalleled leisure offering all combine to make Al Aqah worthy of an award of such high caliber and I share this with the whole team whose tireless dedication has made all this possible,’ he added.

‘Fujairah has emerged as a truly world-class destination that is becoming increasingly well known and accessible and the ‘leading hotel’ award is a huge incentive to the entire staff of the hotel to continue striving for the very best as competition intensifies,’ he said.

The World Travel Awards, billed as the premier global awards event in the travel industry calendar, have been running for 13 years. The awards are decided by votes cast by 167,000 travel professionals worldwide, including 110,000 travel agents in over 190 countries, with candidates for nomination based upon the previous year’s voting.

Earlier this year, Le Meridien Al Aqah received awards at the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) and DEPA Travel Awards as well.

‘At this rate, we’re going to need a new awards cabinet very soon,’ concluded Antaki.

A part of the Starwood hotel chain, Le Meridien Al Aqah Beach Resort is located on a two kilometer sand beach between the majestic Hajar Mountains and the serene Indian Ocean. The resort provides guests with unrivalled leisure facilities that include a mini cinema, Spa Al Aqah, Softouch Ayurvedic Centre, the Baywatch Village restaurant complex, four additional bars and restaurants and a professional diving centre run by Al Boom Marine.
