The city of Athens on Tuesday announced that will vie for the annual “City
Break Expo” event next year as well as for the European Cities Tourism (ECT)
conference, already scheduled for June 2007, following the expressed backing of
the tourism development ministry and various local tourism sector federations.
Athens’ candidacy file was officially submitted to ECT’s leadership at an
exhibition earlier this month in Helsinki by a municipality delegation that
also included Greek National Tourism Organisation (GNTO) President Dimitris
The Expo and the annual conference is organised by the ECT and Reed Travel
Exhibitions, according to a press release by the municipality’s tourism and
economic development organisation.
