Cathay Pacific Airways Ltd hopes eventually to unlock the value of its expanded interest in Air China, the South China Morning Post reported. The newspaper quoted Christopher Pratt, the chairman of Cathay Pacific’s parent, Swire Pacific Ltd, as saying Cathay Pacific has skills in the aviation industry that Air China lacks, and that Air China has influence in the Chinese market that Cathay lacks.

Cathay Pacific recently increased its interest in Air China to 20 percent from 10 percent.
