China’s Hangzhou gets five star boost

The tourism industry in Hangzhou, China has maintained healthy and brisk growth in recent years, tourism revenues hit 46.5 billion yuan (US$5.8 billion) in 2005, an increase of 13 percent. It helps that the city’s West Lake is one of the most famous tourist destinations in China. Hangzhou is renowned for its natural beauty and cultural richness. It is also one of the most repeatedly mentioned places in Chinese literature.

The city, in the eastern seaboard province of Zhejiang, has already achieved a lot in the tourism sector and this is attributed to its clear global strategy, innovative tourism products and high-quality services.

One such establishment is Fuchun Resort outside Hangzhou. It is the only establishment in China included in the “Best New Hotels in the World” list by Conde Nast travel magazine.

The $100 million development has its sites on becoming China’s top resort.

And it is easy to see what sets it apart from the rest. Impeccable service standards while maintaining unparalleled privacy.

The resort is nestled in the lush, tea-covered hills of Fuyang Village in Hangzhou with a focus on business- and family-oriented luxury.

This is combined with a golf resort and an ultra-swank 5-star hotel and villas.

It is like a hidden gem along the banks of the Fuchun River within the heart of Fuchun’s celebrated mountain range.

Fuchun’s locale was the inspiration for celebrated Yuan Dynasty painter Wang Gong Wang centuries ago. Wang spent ten years living along the picturesque Fuchun River painting his phenomenal work, “Dwelling in the Fuchun Mountains”. Now, at the exact location depicted in the scroll, today’s Fuchun Resort has come to life.

The surroundings were nature’s idea, but creating a blissful resort here was Fuchun’s. Moreover, although it is said that nature’s perfection cannot be improved upon, somehow Fuchun Resort has managed to with its combination of modern and traditional design elements. An atmosphere of casual elegance prevails, with interiors that are understated and tasteful, yet as comfortable as a top-caliber establishment should be, the creative result of Jean-Michel Gathy (Denniston International), appointed designer of Aman resorts Group.

Accommodation

Stunning accommodations are the hallmark of Fuchun Resort, starting with The Hotel. Here rooms are spread onto three floors and encompass 22 gorgeous Deluxe Garden View rooms, 7 Deluxe Lake View rooms, 20 Garden View Suites, and 17 Lake View Suites. Hotel Villas range in size from 1 to 3 bedrooms (68-262sqm).

As a luxurious supplement to The Hotel, Fuchun Resort also offers accommodations at five stunning hillside villas (The Fuchun Villas) set atop lush, green, tea-planted hills. Each villa, designed by Jean-Michel Gathy of Aman resorts fame, features the Fuchun signature: an exotically dramatic private indoor swimming pavilion and spectacular vistas of the golf course and surrounding mountain peaks. These idyllic retreats also exemplify appealing Southern Sung Dynasty architecture and with four bedrooms each, house eight occupants. Unique layouts, natural wood-and-stone décor elements, and select Chinese objects d’art -along with four balconied master bedrooms - make these villas an ideal place to sip Fuchun Resort’s famed Mingqian Longjing tea!

Here, an exotic range of the very best in fusion cuisine awaits the diner in a setting that is a complete change from the daytime ambience. Everything on the exciting fusion menu at Club 8 at Fuchun, from healthy breakfasts to light lunches to romantic “Signature” dinners, is prepared by our highly talented Executive Chef whose culinary career has taken him from the Culinary Institute of America to Le Cirque 2000, Restaurant Daniel, and Ritz-Carlton hotels in New York and Florida. This fashionably elegant dining venue overlooks Fuchun Lake and is spacious, airy and refined in a modern Oriental way, and affords a terrific view of the golf course’s 18th hole. This, plus charming décor elements such as overhead lanterns and grand columns, make a meal here truly unforgettable. Another special treat that guests love is the resort’s very own Mingqian Longjing tea, clean and pure in flavor, grown on the hillside terraces just outside, and served piping hot.
Just a few steps away is the Club House Lounge, where light refreshments, snacks, cocktails and healthy teas can be had. This is the spot in which to enjoy cocktails and healthy drinks.

Spa

The concept developed for Fuchun Spa aims to highlight the prosperity and refinery of Hangzhou while, at the same time, embodies the ancient Chinese precept of balance and harmony.

Spas may be new to China, but the holistic approach to healing and treating the body - the fundamental principle behind modern spas - has its roots in China. The Chinese have always believed in combining tranquil, moderate exercise with seasonal diets, stressing the importance of a serene mind. Prevention is better than a cure - an idea that is just beginning to catch on and gain influence in the West - has been a way of life for centuries in China. In the days gone by, wealthy Chinese households would have their own herbalists on staff. The herbalists trained in the traditional Chinese medicine, were the guardians of the families wellbeing.

Fuchun Spa harks back to this tradition and aspires to be the new guardian of health and wellbeing of the members and guests of the Resort.

The concept presented here combines age-old techniques, beliefs and traditions with original ideas and methods of delivery. The result is a Spa, which offers world-class treatments and services but is uniquely Fuchun.

The Spa’s exclusive selection of treatments is brief yet relevant to the lifestyle of the Spa’s target markets. The menu has also been thoughtfully designed to address the needs and expectations of the Spa’s guest. The treatment is as following: The Qi Balancing Massage, The Serenity Massage, West Lake’s Summer Breeze, Hangzhou’s Silk Cocoon, Longevity and Energy Boost Treatment, Fuchun Spa’s Nine Signature Facials, Hair and Scalp Treatment and Signature Dragon Well Foot Treatment.
All the products used in the treatments are exclusively custom blended for Fuchun Spa.

Golf

A full range of recreational facilities is also part of the Fuchun experience.  Primarily is the resort’s sporting centerpiece: its stunning 18-hole Golf Course & Club. With a USGA course-rating system and eighteen holes, Par-72, this visually breathtaking course was sculpted from the hills of the surrounding tea plantation and thus presents players of any skill level with a most unique challenge. Designed by Daniel J. Obermeyer, top course designer for Gary Player in South Africa, the masterpiece Shenzhen Sand River Golf Club—Fuchun’s course is exemplary. Additional golfing features include a beautifully landscaped, split-level driving range (uniquely designed for driving off two platforms and partially covered with an appealing patio area) and a professional golf instruction program. To make the golfing experience complete, Fuchun’s golf operations employees are customer-focused, gracious and trained to exceed expectations.

Recreational Activities

A full range of recreational facilities are also part of the Fuchun experience. Other recreational activities at The Hotel include a serenely peaceful wave less pool for adults, outdoor Jacuzzi, sauna, kids’ pool, kids’ park outdoor playground, fitness nook and foot massage area.  A jogging path, Tai Chi, yoga and meditation round off the list of activities.  An open-air amphitheatre is the ideal venue for sunset cocktails and entertainment.

At the Club House, Fuchun Resort offers two lighted Astro-Turf outdoor tennis courts, set just below ground level in a serene, garden-style walled-in setting. Players of all levels can enjoy the courts’ lively feel and extended (lighted) nighttime playing hours. Relaxing, eye-opening offsite tours of the charmingly picturesque town of Fuyang nearby can also be easily arranged.
