Thai AirAsia Launches Bangkok - Macau

Thai AirAsia, an associated company of AirAsia, made history today by becoming the first low fare, no frills airline in Southeast Asia, to land at the Macau International Airport. Thai AirAsia flight FD 332, departed from Bangkok International Airport at 2.35 pm (local time) and arrived in Macao at 6.20 pm.

AirAsia had earlier launched the new Bangkok-Macau service by offering 10,000 seats at a special launch fare of Baht 679 / MOP 149 one way.

Tassapon Bijleveld, CEO of Thai AirAsia Co. Ltd commented on the new service, “We are delighted to open a new era for travellers in two of the most dynamic cities in the world. Exciting times are ahead as Macau transforms itself into a tourist’s attraction destination, in addition to the themed casinos and resorts that rival those of Las Vegas. We are pleased to provide the link for people to travel affordably between these two cities, which ultimately benefit both trade and tourism, and the exchange of cultures”.

Tony Fernandes, Group Chief Executive Officer, AirAsia said, “This is yet another milestone achievement for AirAsia. Our presence in Macau has been a smooth and rewarding ride, as we now have a three-year old brand that is capable to move people and benefit local governments and airports which supports us. We are positive that our award winning brand, enhanced with the great hospitality of our Thai crew and the huge savings from our low fares, will bring a pleasant experience to our guests in Bangkok and Macau. We will like to thank Macau International Airport, CAM and Macau Tourism for sharing a similar dream, to build Macau into a centre for tourists’ activity and as a gateway to Hong Kong and Southern China.”

Thai AirAsia operates a daily non stop service connecting Bangkok and Macau.
