New Luxury Macdonald Hotel & Country Club for Scottish Borders


Macdonald Hotels has confirmed that the spectacular Macdonald Cardrona Hotel, Golf and Country Club is to open in May this year. It is set to become one of Scotlandå‘s most prestigious country spa retreats.


Situated near Peebles in the Scottish Borders, 40 minutes from Edinburgh and an hour from Glasgow, the new resort will feature 100 bedrooms, a 100-seat restaurant, conference and banqueting facilities for up to 200 people, three bars, luxurious spa facilities, leisure club, outdoor activity centre and golf course.


The Vital leisure club at Cardrona will have floor to ceiling windows, offering views over the golf course and the beautiful Tweed Valley. Facilities will include an 18-m swimming pool, Technogym, sauna, steam room and sumptuous spa with five health and beauty treatment rooms, plus relaxation rooms. Treatments will range from manicures and waxing, to facials and relaxing body massages. There will also be four deluxe spa bedrooms, with direct access to the spa suite, equipped with a range of spa-enhancing features.


Together with the 18 hole, par 72 golf course, designed by Dave Thomas, the variety of outdoor activities at this new destination also include 4x4 off-road driving, mountain biking, fishing and falconry.


The Cardrona project is a joint venture between Macdonald Hotels, Royal Bank Private Equity, Bank of Scotland, Guild Ventures and local entrepreneur, Tom Renwick. In addition to its share in the joint venture, Macdonald Hotels has a 10-year contract to manage the hotel and is overseeing the hotel development.
