WTTC: Tourism in Japan showing ‘clear signs’ of recovery
World Travel & Tourism Council president David Scowsill has confirmed the launch of the second of four quarterly reports examining the recovery of the tourism industry in Japan following the Tohoku tsunami earlier this year. In an upbeat assessment, the WTTC finds the sector is showing signs of a “strong recovery”.
WTTC Global Summit to include Sendai events
The World Travel & Tourism Council has confirmed a substantial part of the 12th WTTC Global Summit will be held in Sendai, north east Japan. It was announced in November that the Summit would be held in Tokyo from April 16th-19th 2012. However, just one week after the Host Committee for the Summit had its first meeting, the earthquake and tsunami struck Japan on March 11th.

WTTC Summit 2011: growing Mexican drug violence “no threat” to tourism
Mexican President Felipe Calderon said that drug violence has yet to harm his country’s tourism, nor will it hinder his plans to continue growing the industry. Speaking to delegates at the WTTC Global Travel & Tourism Summit, he said there were “almost zero” incidents of tourists encountering crime related to drug cartels.
WTTC Summit 2011: Zimbabwe continues its return from the tourism cold
After years in the tourism wilderness, Zimbabwe is bouncing back strongly. According to the WTTC, its tourism economy is set to grow 6.3 percent this year. The influential travel and tourism body also predicts that Zimbabwe will continue growing at 8.2 percent per annum over the next decade, the second highest in the world after China.
