WTM 2011 to generate £164m for UK & Ireland exhibitors

World Travel Market 2011, the leading global event for the travel industry, will generate more than £160 million for UK & Ireland exhibitors, reveals independent research. Fusion Communications’ analysis of the WTM 2011 UK & Ireland region reveals £164m of contracts will be generated, either through deals signed at the event with Meridian Club buyers or from further negotiations which will conclude before WTM 2012.

World Travel Market chairman, Fiona Jeffery, has collected her Order of the British Empire from Princess Anne at Buckingham Palace. Fiona was awarded the OBE for her services to the travel and tourism industry during her 26 years at World Travel Market, including her commitment to responsible tourism and for launching charity Just a Drop – which looks to reduce child mortality through the providing of clean water to third world communities.

The aquarium team of Burj Al Arab has announced the zebra shark inhabiting the aquarium at its underwater restaurant is the first shark of its species to reproduce without the presence of a male – a process known as parthenogenesis. The mother shark currently lives with her daughter, Nimr, who is one of 21 surviving zebra sharks to have been reproduced through the process of parthenogenesis since 2007.
