Motown Museum to see $50m expansion in Detroit
The world famous Motown Museum in Detroit has announced it will undergo a $50-million-dollar expansion starting in 2017. This will grow the Museum to a 50,000 square foot tourist attraction featuring dynamic, interactive exhibits, a state-of-the art performance theatre, unrivalled recording studios, an expanded retail experience and meeting spaces designed by world renowned architects and exhibit designers.

Hakkasan Group debuts Yauatcha brand in United States
Hakkasan Group will debut its first US location of Yauatcha, a dim sum teahouse, on February 1st, 2017 in Honolulu. Located on the Grand Lanai level of the newly redeveloped International Market Place, the indoor-outdoor restaurant will feature dim sum, a patisserie, an extensive tea menu and eclectic mixology program in a contemporary setting with 276 seats.

Los Angeles set to break tourism visitor record
Los Angeles Tourism & Convention Board has shared new visitation forecasts and tourism data with local hospitality partners and business leaders at the organisation’s fourth annual Market Outlook Forum. Among the highlights, visitation to Los Angeles is expected to set a new record in 2016 with more than 46.5 million total visitors, an increase of 2.4 per cent from the previous record-setting year.

Greater Fort Lauderdale welcomes latest diving wreck
Greater Fort Lauderdale in Florida, home to the largest collection of warm-water wrecks in the Western world, has confirmed a new addition to the collection in the form of Lady Luck. The vessel will be lowered to the seabed on Saturday, July 23rd. Complete with the world’s first underwater art gallery, the 324-foot tanker ship will be one of the biggest contributions to Florida’s artificial reef system, the most easily accessible major dive site in the nation.

SeaWorld Entertainment to end orca breeding programme
SeaWorld Entertainment has announced that the killer whales – or orcas – currently in the company’s care will be the last generation of orcas at SeaWorld. The company will end all orca breeding as of today. The move follows widespread criticism of SeaWorld’s activities, in particular the film Blackfish.

Chambers Travel Group acquires Montrose Travel in US
Chambers Travel Group’s parent company Corporate Travel Management is expanding its US footprint with the acquisition of California-based Montrose Travel. The purchase is expected to make CTM one of the 12 largest travel companies in the US, just three years after entering the market. The company’s total transactional value in North America is now expected to exceed AU$1 billion in the 2016 calendar year following the AU$47.6 million (US$ 34.32m) purchase.

Etihad Airways welcomes first A380 flights to New York
Etihad Airways has welcomed the highly-anticipated arrival of its Airbus A380 service at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport. The arrival marked the US debut of the airline’s exclusive A380 service, including The Residence by Etihad, the only commercially available three-room suite in the sky. The A380 now serves guests travelling on one of the airline’s two daily flights between Abu Dhabi and New York.
