Western Union extends TUI UK partnership
The Western Union Company and UK tour operator TUI UK & Ireland, home to the brands Thomson and First Choice, have announced a new five year contract to ensure Western Union’s money transfer services will continue to be available in travel shops across the UK. The deal sees TUI UK & Ireland and Western Union extend their successful ten year collaboration and means that holidaymakers, as well as many other customer groups, who need cash to be sent to them quickly by family or friends, can do so conveniently at a ‘Thomson featuring First Choice’ travel shop.
TUI China opens Shanghai branch
TUI China officially opened its Shanghai branch, located in the CH International Tower, in Hongkou District, Shanghai. TUI China’s Shanghai branch will focus on providing professional services to Shanghai’s growing M.I.C.E. (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Events) sector
Tour operators pull out of Egypt as violence escalates
TUI has said it will cancel all holidays purchase by German holidaymakers to Egypt until at least the middle of September. Escalating violence in the country following the removal of president Mohamed Morsi last month has prompted the move.
Abu Dhabi teams up with TUI for Indian tourism push
Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority and TUI have teamed up to stage a month long destination campaign in New Delhi to further bolster Indian visitor numbers to the emirate. It is the first large-scale consumer facing activation for TCA Abu Dhabi in the republic since opening its dedicated promotions office there early this year and reinforces the two organisations’ commitment to the Indian market - the largest overseas catchment for the emirate this year in terms of hotel guests.

TUI Travel has reported a nine per cent increase in bookings at its UK operations as poor winter weather drives Brits to book holidays earlier. TUI also reported higher margins on those holidays which were booked, with momentum also carried into the summer season.
Frenzel to step down from TUI Travel next month
TUI Travel chairman Michael Frenzel has announced his intention to resign as chairman next month. The decision means Frenzel will go six months earlier than originally planned, stepping down at the TUI Travel Board meeting on March 25th.

Travel giant TUI has argued its “unique” holidays have allowed it to differentiate itself in the UK market and boosted its market share. Releasing its first quarter results today, chief executive Peter Long said he expects underlying operating profit to grow by up to ten per cent.
