TUI AG has confirmed it will not bid for smaller TUI Travel following an assessment of present market conditions. TUI AG made the statement in accordance with the UK City Code of Takeovers & Mergers, with the company now banned from launching a takeover bid within six months.
TUI Travel comes clean on TUI AG talks
It has been a long time coming, but directors at TUI Travel have finally confirmed they are in discussions with TUI AG about a possible merger of the two organisations. The larger German organisation already owns 56 per cent of TUI Travel, with a deal potentially seeing the organisation acquiring the outstanding stock.
Tui Travel records strong annual profits
Tui Travel has reported an eight per cent rise in annual profits, hailing an “outstanding performance” by its UK business. The company, which owns Thomson and First Choice, made a profit of £390 million in the year to September 30th.
New milestone in Toscana Resort Castelfalfi: first hotel is opened
The development of the Toscana Resort Castelfalfi has taken a major step forward with the opening of the first hotel. The boutique hotel La Tabaccaia, in the walls of the village’s former tobacco factory, opened on schedule on 6 October. The 3-star hotel with 32 rooms is the first of three hotels planned for the resort.
Frenzel to address industry audience at World Travel Market
TUI AG chairman Michael Frenzel has been confirmed the headline speaker at World Travel Market Captains of Industry lunch on the first day of the 2012 event. Frenzel will take part in a question and answer session in front of an invite-only audience of more than 120 of the industry’s most senior professionals.

TUI Travel to join Embraer E-Jets’ family of customers
Embraer is pleased to welcome TUI Travel PLC, one of the world’s leading leisure travel companies, to its E-Jets’ family of customers. The Group will lease two EMBRAER 190 jets under an agreement with BOC Aviation, a Singapore-based aircraft leasing company.
Wimbleton to step down at TUI Travel
After months of discussion it has been confirmed John Wimbleton will step down as managing director of the specialist and activity division of TUI Travel. Wimbleton, who has been with the company for 22 years, will step down at the end of December.
TUI Travel dragged down by early Easter
TUI Travel has seen profits fall by 16 per cent in the third financial quarter, as the early Easter holiday disrupted trading. Net operating profit stood at £74 million for the period, with weakness in the French and other European economies also taking a toll.
Tui AG names new chief executive
Tui AG has named Friedrich Joussen as its new chief executive following the news that Michael Frezel will step down from his post next year. Joussen will take over as chief executive from February 13.
TUI Travel signs long-term Dreamliner maintenance deal at Farnborough
Boeing and the Europe-based TUI Travel have signed a five-year agreement to provide 787 Dreamliner flight, maintenance and cabin safety training. Boeing also announced at the Farnborough International Airshow it will place a second 787 full-flight simulator at its European training headquarters at London Gatwick to support the training requirements of the TUI Group and European 787 customers.
