The Chairman of Qantas, Mr Leigh Clifford, today announced the appointment of Ms Corinne Namblard as a Non-Executive Director of the Board of Qantas Airways Limited, with immediate effect.
Qantas reaches settlement with Rolls-Royce following engine blow-out
Qantas has announced a settlement with Rolls-Royce following a mid-air engine explosion and subsequent grounding of its Airbus A380 fleet last year. The Australian flag-carrier will receive AUS$95 million from the British manufacturer, following the incident in November last year.
Further ash cloud disruption in southern Australia
Virgin Australia and Qantas Airlines have both cancelled flights in Australia as aviation in the southern hemisphere continues to be affected by volcanic ash. All flights in to and out of Sydney and Melbourne have been cancelled for the next 48 hours as ash from the Puyehue-Cordon Caulle volcano in Chile circles the earth for the second time.

Qantas scales back growth plans as fuel bill bites
Qantas has revealed it will significantly cut back expansion plans as rising fuel costs and the impact of natural disasters around the world take a toll on the airline. Alan Joyce, chief executive at the Australian flag-carrier said the airline was now planning for a 5.5 per cent growth in domestic capacity for 2011-12, compared with eight per cent previously.
Confusion as Australian ash cloud disruption enters third day
Safety was at the heard of a developing debate in Australia this morning, with carriers offering sharply different responses to the ongoing ash cloud crisis. While Australian flag-carrier Qantas has cancelled flights across the country, competitor Virgin Atlantic insisted it was safe to fly.
Australasian airlines grounded by Chilean ash
Qantas, Jetstar and Tiger Airways have all cancelled flights this morning, as strong winds carry ash particles from Puyehue Volcano in Chile across the southern hemisphere. Air travel in South America also continues to be disrupted, with flights in and out of the Argentine and Uruguayan capitals cancelled.
IATA 2011: Qantas warns over higher prices
Leasing Australasian airline Qantas has warned passengers prices are likely to increase as it battles against rising fuel costs. Alan Joyce, the chief executive of Qantas, confirmed at the IATA annual conference in Singapore earlier fare increases and surcharges still do have not cover fuel costs with the airline considering further increases in the future to make up the shortfall.
Rats in cabin ground Qantas jet
Adding to its recent spate of safety scares and impending strikes, Qantas has been confronted with a new problem – rats in the cabin. Staff discovered five baby rats in the cabin of a Boeing 767 jet shortly before customers were due to board.
Qantas strike - boss says “outrageous” pilots jeopardising future
The chief executive of Qantas Airways has accused pilots of threatening the future of the Australian flag carrier. Alan Joyce said he refused to give in to “outrageous” pay demands of pilots, who are poised to take their first strike action in 45 years following the collapse of negotiations last week.
Qantas jumbo in engine shutdown
Rolls-Royce has faced its second scare within a week after a Qantas Boeing 747 bound for London was forced to shut down an engine and return to Bangkok Airport. The pilot noticed “vibration and high temperatures” in one of four engines. But the plane, carrying 308 passengers, landed safely.
Further boost for QantasLink Cairns-Weipa services
QantasLink today announced the addition of two new return services per week between Cairns and Weipa from 27 June.
