Wings family flights for summer 2016 go on sale
Flights offered by the Wings family of airlines, Eurowings and Germanwings, for next summer are now on sale. Departures planned between March 27th and October 29th next year are now open for booking. For the first time, travellers arranging their summer holidays next year can book their intercontinental flights with Eurowings and their European routes with Germanwings.
Eurowings welcomes new livery for long-haul fleet
The new Eurowings is preparing for the start of its long-haul flights in November 2015. For this purpose the first long-haul plane, an Airbus A330-200, was lacquered in the new Eurowings design. The plane left the paint shop in Taipei, Taiwan, in the colours of the new Eurowings earlier and is being transferred to Lufthansa Technik in Hamburg for the installation of the cabins.
Officials mull manslaughter charges following Germanwings crash
Officials in France have announced they will open a preliminary investigation into possible manslaughter charges following the crash of a Germanwings plane. All 150 people on board, mostly from Spain and Germany, died in the crash in March.
Search for Germanwings victims’ bodies ends
The French authorities reported they have ended the search for bodies at the site where Germanwings flight 4U9525 crashed in the French Alps in southern France last week, killing all 150 people on board.
Second black box recorder located following Germanwings crash
Investigators have located the second flight recorder from Germanwings flight 4U9525 which crashed in southern France last week. The first, voice recorder was found shortly after the crash on March 24th.
Lufthansa cancels anniversary celebrations
Lufthansa has confirmed it will cancel its 60th anniversary celebrations, originally planned for next month. In a statement earlier the airline said live coverage of the memorial service at the Cologne Cathedral in memory of the victims of flight 4U 95245 would be broadcast instead. That event will take place on the April 17th.
Germanwings co-pilot Lubitz hid existing mental illness from employers
Andreas Lubitz, the Germanwings co-pilot suspected of deliberately crashing an aircraft in southern France earlier this week, hid details of an existing mental illness from employers. Submissions from German prosecutors state they do not know what condition Lubitz suffered from, but media report suggested he suffered depression and required ongoing assessment.
Norwegian leads with cockpit procedure changes following Germanwings crash
Low-cost carrier Norwegian has decided to change its cockpit procedures so that two crew members always are present in the cockpit. Norwegian had been examining cockpit procedures prior to the crash. However, in light of the tragic Germanwings accident, the airline said it was speeding up the process so that two crew members always are present in the cockpit.
Co-pilot ‘deliberately’ destroyed Germanwings flight 4U 9525
The co-pilot of Germanwings flight 4U 9525 appeared to deliberately “destroy the plane”, French officials have revealed. Speaking to media, Marseille prosecutor Brice Robin, said the co-pilot intentionally started a descent while the pilot was locked out of the cockpit. Robin confirmed the hypothesis based on information from the ‘black box’ voice recorder recovered from the crash.
Recovery operation underway in French Alps following Germanwings crash
French authorities have resumed a recovery operation in the Alps after the crash of a Germanwings plane carrying 150 people yesterday. The plane came down in a remote mountain ravine between Digne and Barcelonnette, with the loss of all 144 passengers and six crew.
Germanwings flight crashes in south of France
An Airbus A320 operated by Germanwings has crashed in the French Alps with 142 passengers and six crew on board. The aircraft came down between Barcelonnette and Digne in southern France, on route from Barcelona to Düsseldorf. Speaking to the nation shortly after the incident French president Francois Hollande said: “The conditions of the accident, which have not yet been clarified, lead us to think there are no survivors.”
Lufthansa completes Germanwings repositioning as Zurich flights begin
The Lufthansa Group has made a successful start to the New Year with the transfer of the Düsseldorf–Zurich route from Lufthansa to Germanwings. The transfer of the Düsseldorf–Zurich route means that the decision to operate all domestic and European routes under Germanwings, with the exception of flights to and from the Frankfurt and Munich hubs, has now been fully implemented as scheduled.
