Air Canada welcomes Canada’s new status as Approved Destination for Chinese travellers
Air Canada today welcomed the signing of an agreement between China and Canada by which the Government of China has granted Canada Approved Destination Status, making it easier for Chinese nationals to visit Canada. The agreement comes as Air Canada doubles its capacity between Toronto and China beginning this fall with the introduction of daily flights year-round to Shanghai, Beijing and Hong Kong, in addition to its year-round flights between Vancouver and all three cities.

Piracy and terrorism topped the agenda of the European Union’s chief diplomat, Catherine Ashton, on her four day visit to India. Ashton said the EU has proposed that India consider working closer with the 10-nation Atalanta flotilla or the NATO fleet fighting pirates off Somalia. “These have rotating command structures at different levels,” she said and said India could consider being part of such a system.
Scores feared dead in China flooding
As many as 199 people are now feared to have died in flooding which has swept southern China over the past ten days. Some 29 million residents in ten provinces have been hit by the flooding, with as many as three million displaced from their homes.

Australia seeks boost in Chinese tourism
Australian prime minister Kevin Rudd has outlined plans to invest some $30 million in selling Australia as a tourism destination to Chinese travellers. The move is part of a $10 billion trade agreement between the two states and follows a visit by Chinese vice-president Xi Jinpeng to Australia over the weekend.
