DoubleTree by Hilton debuts in Shiyan
The DoubleTree by Hilton Shiyan is opening its doors, marking the debut of the DoubleTree by Hilton brand in Shiyan. DoubleTree by Hilton Shiyan is the only international branded hotel in Shiyan. Situated in the heart of the new Central Business District, the hotel is convenient to government and business offices and shopping districts as well as local attractions such as Si Fang Mountain National Park and the World Heritage Site of Wudang Mountain. DoubleTree by Hilton Shiyan is the only international branded hotel in Shiyan.
Malaysia Airlines announces significant China expansion
Malaysia Airlines has launched rapid expansion into China. Malaysia Airlines’ chief executive Peter Bellew explained: “Malaysia Airlines plans to triple our Chinese business over the next five years. I see potential for direct flights to 20 Chinese cities from Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Kota Kinabalu and Kuching by 2019.”
Air China to launch Melbourne-Shenzhen route in January
Air China has announced direct service between Melbourne and Shenzhen, to begin on January 10th next year. The service CA767/768 will operate four times per week with evening departures on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday.
WTTC: China leads globe in tourism investment
China is one of the most successful examples of where prioritisation of tourism in government policy leads to higher income and more jobs, according to the World Travel & Tourism Council. Speaking at the Global Tourism Economy Forum in Macau, WTTC president David Scowsill emphasised the power of tourism to drive economic growth and create jobs and highlighted the government of the People’s Republic of China’s recognition of this.
Gatwick Airport welcomes government decision to boost China flights
Gatwick Airport has welcomed a new agreement between the UK and Chinese governments to more than double the number of permitted flights between China and the UK, paving the way for further opportunities to increase flights between Gatwick and China. Under the new deal passenger flights can now increase from the current maximum of 40 per week for each nation to up to 100, helping to boost tourism and trade opportunities for the UK.
MSC Splendida to homeport in China from May 2018
MSC Cruises revealed today that it will deploy its MSC Splendida to China as of May 2018. In connection with this, following in the footsteps of the announcement of the opening of the new MSC Cruises own office in Shanghai and a new management and operations team based there, the company is taking another key step to further improve its ability to serve the Chinese home market.
Emirates to bring A380 to Guangzhou route in October
Emirates has announced that it will operate its flagship A380 on services between Dubai and Guangzhou from October 1st, the 67th National Day of People’s Republic of China. This follows the airline’s recent announcements of A380 deployment on its Milan and Johannesburg routes.
Hangzhou welcomes tourism spotlight ahead of G20 Summit
China’s stunning city of Hangzhou has already welcomed 1.3 million visitors between the months of January and May this year and expects to see many more travellers enter the city before the end of 2016 as a result of hosting the G20 Summit this September. According to the China National Tourism Administration, approximately 625,000 UK tourists visit China annually and, with this autumn’s high-profile event further raising awareness of the city, Hangzhou Tourism Commission is expecting this figure to grow significantly from October onwards.

Centara Hotels & Resorts’ latest venture is two new properties in China, with the group’s management signing two new agreements for what will become the new ‘Centara Grand Beach Resort Jin Tai Hainan’ in Hainan Province and the ‘Centara Villas Zhaoqing’ in Guangdong Province. Thirayuth Chirathivat, chief executive of Centara Hotels & Resorts, commented that the addition of new properties, in these strategic Eastern locations, is an excellent opportunity to expand the company’s portfolio.
Shanghai Disney Resort opens in China
Shanghai Disney Resort, the first Disney resort in Mainland China and the sixth worldwide, celebrated its historic grand opening, culminating one of Disney’s most ambitious projects ever. The wonder and imagination of Disney greeted the people of China in magical new ways as the gates opened to Shanghai Disneyland, a theme park like no other with the biggest, tallest castle in any Disney park, the first pirate-themed land and Disney’s most technologically advanced park to date.
Chinese visitors flock to Britain
Latest figures from VisitBritain show that visits from China were up 37 per cent in the first nine months of 2015, smashing previous records. There were 214,000 visits from China from January to September, beating the number of visits for all of 2014, with figures for the last quarter of 2015 still to come. Spend was up four per cent over the same period, to £435 million.
British travellers warned over Beijing Christmas travel
The British Foreign & Commonwealth Office has warned of possible threats against Westerners in the Sanlitun area of Beijing, on or around Christmas Day. The moves comes after the British Embassy Beijing received information of a possible incident.
